#MadeInShasta farms. Meet Chen Narens and her husband Sam Narens, owners of Lavineyard Farms. For four years, the couple has operated their boutique lavender farm with an Italian Vineyard in Whitmore. Lavineyard Farms products are made with natural ingredients grown right there on their farm. The Narens are focused on organic methods - no pesticides, herbicides, or harmful chemicals. From their lavender, they make a large variety of beauty products including candles, salves, diffusers, soaps, fresh and dry lavender bouquets, gorgeous wreaths and much more. After living and working in the big city of San Francisco, the couple realized that working for big corporations around the clock was not the life they wanted. Chen had worked in the tech industry in the realm of marketing and advertising data analytics. Sam had a background in hospitality. They began taking permaculture courses on their days off and saved to one day have a sustainable farm business.A lavender farm and vineyard property went up for sale and the Narens just knew this was the moment they had been waiting for. The farm has the largest collection of lavender varieties in the west - over 140 species!“This is the perfect place to build our dream,” says Chen. “Having a lavender farm at the winery, a place to share with the community, a destination for relaxation, and fun family gatherings,” continues to inspire Chen and Sam everyday. What they love most about being vendors at the Redding Farmers Markets is the great sense of community in Shasta County. Chen and Sam recognize the value in supporting local businesses. “Keeping money circulating in the local area is great for the region’s economy,” says Chen. “We have met so many great crafters, bakers and growers here. We can get everything from apples to Zucchini, great farm-butchered meats, soaps, jewelry, and healthily-made breads.Shasta county is very self-sustaining.”Chen loves getting to interact with her customers directly at the Redding Farmers Markets: “People are very friendly here. The customers are so supportive of local, small businesses and the talent of the other vendors is astonishing. If you know your doctor and your kids' coaches and teachers, shouldn't you know your farmers too?”Chen and Sam look forward to opening their winery and gift shop by appointment next year, in June of 2022.
